Juha Siltala's CV: Juha Siltala, PhD (born 1957) has been researcher at the Academy of Finland (1985-1996) and since then professor of Finnish history at the University of Helsinki. His dissertation dealt with fascist violence as an attempt to restore symbolic order during economic crisis. Since then he has published numerous psychohistorical studies focusing on adult ways to handle childhood anxieties under stress: on pietism, on nationalism, and on the problems of modern male identity. This autumn will appear a voluminous study on 19th century idealism of perfectibility and its origins in childhood and actual group processess. In various theoretical articles Siltala has critized current fashion to reduce human subjectivity either to cultural influences or to inherited properties. |
